Arthur Wardle, RI, RBC, PS
British 1864-1949
Born in London, this self-taught artist is best known for his pictures of dogs but he also painted a variety of other animals, both wild and domestic, working in oil, watercolor and pastel. He became a member of the Pastel Society in 1911 and a member of the Royal Institute in 1922. He exhibited quite prolifically at the major exhibitions. Wardle had is first one man exhibition at the Fine Art Society in 1931 and a major exhibition at Vicars in 1935. Hunting scenes by him are rare, but always of fine quality. His sporting work includes “Grouse Shooting”, “An Otter Hunt on the Moors”, dated 1891. He also painted several studies of deer stalking. A small amount of his of his paintings were produced as engravings and aquatints.
