Biographical Information

Michael Boeckmann
American Contemporary
Digital Painting

Born in 1953 in Minnesota, Boeckmann was formally schooled in photographic technology. He has spent over 30 years capturing images on six of the world's seven continents; explorations which have taken him from the jungles of South America and Africa, to the streets of Europe's major cities; to the Great Barrier Reef and exploring the flora and fauna of Madagascar. The Last 16 years have seen him involved full-time in the production and distribution of giant screen films. He combines traditional photography (from digital to 4x5) with the software tools of Photoshop and Painter to create "digital paintings", allowing him to produce works that do indeed take on a more "painterly" look. He uses the latest in 8 color archival printing to produce works on a variety of materials, from watercolor paper to canvas.

Boeckmann has had lifetime fascination with the colorful imagery of horse racing and equestrians. His travels have given him the opportunity to use his photographic skills to capture the more interesting aspects of horses and their devoted owners and fans.
