Cindy Wolf
Bronze Sculpture - American 1946

Born in San Francisco in 1946, Cindy Wolf began her riding career at the age of 3½. When she was eight, her father, Dr. Earl Gilmore, gave her an American Saddlebred on the understanding that she was entirely responsible for its welfare. By 1964, when she entered William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri, she had become an accomplished rider, and provided riding instruction for other students. She graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history.

Wolf's interest in sculpture through the medium in clay modeling was apparently perfectly natural to her, but her career as an artist was delayed because her success in the show arena had reached international standards.

Having achieved the highest accolades in the show ring, Wolf turned her attention to her sculpture. Apprenticing at the Colorado foundry which produced her work, she rapidly became experienced in all phases of fine art shell bronze production. After six years, she began a new association with artist Chuck Quigley, of the Artists Services Network in Boulder, Colorado. Quigley, who shared Wolf's adherence to perfectionism, was instrumental in the development of the bronze studio at her home in Kentucky.

Today, Wolf in known for expressive portrayals of horses which maintain a fine balance between traditional and contemporary interpretation. She also is famous hr her unique, innovative patinas - some almost mirror like - achieved through metal polishing and a variety of finishes. Often she leaves the natural color of the metal visible through the patina, producing an almost translucent color. Another Wolf trademark is her grasp of weight distribution and stress; many of her equine sculptures feature their subject in motion, resting on just one leg. Her total mastery of her craft is illustrated in the fact that of the 14 primary stages necessary to create a bronze sculpture, Wolf completes all but three herself.

Wolf's sculpture is collected worldwide including patrons: Arthur Appleton, Robert Brenna, Nelson Bunker Hunt, Eugene Klein, Robert Levy, S. Ru bin, B. Schwartz and A. Wildenstein to mention only a few.
