The Horse and Hound in Art

Biographical Information

Jeaneen Barnhart
American 1967

A Florida native, Jeaneen started painting at an early age along with her twin sister, Doreen. Coming from a family of artists: with devoted parents educating the twins on all aspects of technical drawing skills and grandparents whom range from professional musicians, songwriters to a comic book illustrator. It was a natural progression for the sisters to look to the arts.

After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts painting degree to Alfred University, NY in 1992, Jeaneen joined her sister in Louisville, KY where they currently reside and continue to collaborate on many local and very notable projects. Soon after the move, Barnhart's figure paintings created an impact on Louisville's nouveau art scene,
which led to print and poster commissions for:
1994/1997 Kentucky Derby Festival
PGA Golf Experience
1999 St James Court Art Show
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Ball Identity

Barnhart has also published several successful posters of her original works. Gallery exhibits include New York, Florida, California and Kentucky, where her studio is located. Equestrian art in Kentucky (the horse capital of the world) comes with stiff competition, but she has painted her way to the top and is considered by many a treasure for the state of Kentucky.

Drawings in charcoal and pastel are her media of choice, creating works with such diverse line and texture taking on their own dimension. Although painting is secondary, successful canvases depict similar qualities of classic drawing style and spirited movement. Her exploration with oil painting continues working with a variety of subject matter. In whatever medium she works in, Barnhart’s lines capture the energy and strength of her equestrian subjects.
