Biographical Information

Jonathan Moeller
1957 American - Bronze Sculpture

Born in 1957 in Breckenridge, Minnesota, Jonathan Moeller was raised on a small family farm in the heartland. His boyhood afforded him wonderful experiences with livestock and abundant wildlife. His appreciation for horses grew from a very young age. Jonathan's father Alan, besides operating a dairy, was talented in watercolor and drawing. This planted the seed in Jonathan and gave him an early start with sketching and painting.

Jonathan attended South Dakota State University where he received his Bachelors Degree. Post Graduate studies in sculpture took place at Northern State University and Radford University. He currently lives on a ranch in South Dakota where both his studio and foundry are located.

Jonathan has been sculpting successfully for over 20 years creating over 50 editions in bronze. Owning and operating his own foundry allows his direct involvement in every detail while producing his work. From the first modeling of the sculpture to the final patina of the casting, each creation is intricately finished by the artist. The wood bases are hand-picked and finished by Jonathan. At times he has milled his own walnut trees for the enhancement of his sculpture.

Jonathan appreciates horses and wildlife in their natural beauty. He attempts to accurately portray the animal and avoid the exaggerating desirable characteristics which result in over-stylization. His goal is to create a representational bronze that is realistic and captures as much as possible the spirit of the animal.
