Biographical Information

Nicholas Mace
British 1949

Nicholas Mace was born in London in 1949. From early childhood he has been fascinated by every aspect of wildlife. His main interest and the major subject of his paintings have been field sports. Over the years, an observant and critical eye has endowed him with an extensive knowledge of the countryside. His sporting paintings have been shown at the prestigious Game Fair since 1972.

To be a professional artist has been the only career ambition in Mace's life. His talents in this direction developed in his early years and by the age of 15 he was selling his paintings in London's open air shows. On leaving school he worked for a short time in a commercial art studio, but soon found that commercial art was entirely divorced from the fine arts. So in the tradition of many British sporting artist of previous generations, he taught himself. His paintings are a unique combination of a large landscape painted in exact detail on relatively small canvases. It is a style of his own and easily recognized. Over the last 30 years he has brought himself into a class where he is now considered as one of the established contemporary British sporting artists. His paintings have been purchased by discerning sportsmen on both sides of the Atlantic . Mace is a keen sportsman and country lover and currently resides in Dorset with his wife and dogs.
