Equestrian Art and Sporting Art
has been influenced considerably by the patterns in equestrian history and likewise the history of equestrianism. Equestrian art as we know it began with Francis Barlow (1626-1704), who is traditionally referred to as the father of British sporting art. It was Barlow who produced the first published picture of a horse race in England.

The Horse and Hound Art website features a large proportion of British Sporting Art, where it all began. It is a work in progress in an attempt to gather biographies and images documenting the history of horse art up to current times.

This website is a knowledge base for individuals who appreciate horse paintings and sporting art. There is no art for sale on this site, but for those browsing, will discover links to e-commerce sites that offer horse prints, dog engravings and sporting art paintings to collectors.
